1. About Noted

Noted is an independent, local-first convention and assembly note-taking companion designed for Jehovah's Witnesses. It is not an official app of Jehovah's Witnesses and is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

This policy describes Noted V10.3 as implemented in the web app and installable PWA. It is a transparency document, not a promise that every law in every location has been reviewed or satisfied.

2. Information stored on the device

Noted can store typed notes, handwriting, convention or assembly notebooks, gathering details, program and schedule information, People Journal memories, Day Capsules, Things I Kept, checklist items, gems, Scripture references and comments, application notes, Carry Forward items, quick notes, preferences, and settings.

This content is normally stored in browser/device storage used by Noted. Noted has no user account system and no Noted-operated server-side notes database.

3. Information not automatically uploaded

Noted does not automatically send private notebook content to the Noted operator. The app does not automatically attach typed notes, handwriting, People Journal memories, Day Capsules, notebook content, imported program content, schedules, Things I Kept, checklist data, gems, Scriptures, or applications to feedback or another network request.

Content can leave the device when you deliberately submit feedback, save or share a file, upload an export elsewhere, or use another user-initiated action described below.

4. Local storage

Noted uses browser localStorage to preserve app data and interface preferences. The PWA service worker also uses the browser Cache API for same-origin app files so the app can work offline.

Local storage belongs to the browser/device environment. Clearing browser or site data, removing the installed PWA and its site data, device loss or failure, browser storage failure, or changing browsers may remove or make local Noted data unavailable. Make regular backup files of notes you care about and keep them somewhere you control.

5. PDF program import

You choose the program PDF. Noted reads the selected file as local bytes and processes supported text-based PDFs in the browser with a locally bundled copy of PDF.js and its local worker. The app does not automatically upload the selected PDF to the Noted operator.

6. Notebook exports

Notebook PDF, Microsoft Word DOCX, and Google Docs-ready exports are generated locally in the browser. The Google Docs option creates the same editable DOCX used for Word; Noted does not connect to Google Drive, use Google OAuth, or upload that file to Google. Microsoft does not receive a Word export automatically.

You control the resulting file. If you later open, upload, store, or share it with Google, Microsoft, a cloud drive, messaging app, or another service, that copy becomes subject to the privacy and security practices of the service you chose. Google and Microsoft do not endorse or sponsor Noted.

7. Sharing

Noted can offer the browser/device share interface for a program file, backup, or notebook export. Sharing begins only after you choose the relevant action and select a destination. Noted does not automatically share notebook content.

A program file is built from gathering and schedule information and does not include personal notes. A backup can contain the full local library; choose password protection before sharing when appropriate. A notebook export contains the options you selected, and People Journal memories are excluded by default.

8. Feedback

Feedback & Support sends information through FormSubmit to the Noted developer by email. Subject and message are required. Feedback type is included; name and reply email are optional. If you leave name blank, the form sends the generic label “Noted user.”

The “Include basic app details” option is enabled by default but can be turned off before sending. When included, it sends Noted version, device category/app or web mode, touch-input availability, interface language, theme, and default note method. Notes, handwriting, People Journal, notebooks, program/schedule data, Day Capsules, Things I Kept, checklist data, gems, Scriptures, and applications are not automatically attached. Anything you type or paste into the feedback fields will be sent.

Feedback leaves the device and is processed by FormSubmit and email systems. FormSubmit can also receive ordinary connection information, such as the request's IP address and browser/request headers. Their handling and retention are governed by their own practices; Noted does not set or promise a specific third-party retention period.

9. Hosting and technical logs

Noted's public website is hosted by Netlify. When Netlify serves the website, it may process ordinary technical request information involved in delivering it, such as an IP address, request headers, and the paths of requested pages or assets, according to Netlify's own service and privacy practices. The service worker makes same-origin requests for app files on first load, updates, and cache misses.

Noted does not automatically include private notebook content in any Noted-generated network request or payload sent to Netlify. Notes, handwriting, People Journal memories, Day Capsules, imported program content, and other private notebook data normally remain in Noted's local browser storage.

10. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

The audited V10.3 app does not set application cookies and does not include advertising, personalized advertising, analytics services, tracking pixels, or third-party behavioral tracking. Noted does use localStorage and the Cache API; these are browser storage technologies even though they are not advertising cookies. Netlify may use its own essential security or delivery technologies according to its service and privacy practices.

11. Sale of personal information

Noted does not sell private notebook content or personal information. The current app has no advertising-data marketplace or data-broker integration.

12. Third-party services

  • FormSubmit: processes user-submitted feedback and delivers it by email.
  • Netlify: hosts and delivers the public website and may process ordinary technical request information as described above.
  • Services you choose: a browser/device share destination, email client, cloud drive, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, messaging app, or other destination receives data only when you choose to send, open, or upload a file there.

There is no PayPal feature, Google Drive connection, Microsoft account connection, or runtime CDN in the audited release.

13. Data retention

Local Noted data remains in browser/device storage until you change or reset it, clear the relevant site/app data, or the storage becomes unavailable. Noted cannot see or remotely retain that local library.

Feedback submitted through FormSubmit is separate from the local library. Its retention is controlled by FormSubmit, email providers, and the recipient's handling; this policy does not invent a retention period for those systems.

14. Data deletion

You can delete individual content through available Noted controls or use Settings → Advanced & reset → Reset app data to replace the local library with a new empty state. Clearing Noted's browser/site storage can also remove local data, including preferences. Make a backup first if you want to keep anything.

Because Noted has no remote notes account, the operator cannot remotely delete or recover notes stored on your device. A request about previously submitted feedback may be sent to the contact below, but deletion cannot be promised where the information is controlled by a third-party processor or email system.

15. Security

Noted's local-first design avoids automatically placing notebooks in a Noted-operated cloud database. Optional password-protected backup files are encrypted locally using browser Web Crypto (PBKDF2 with SHA-256 and AES-GCM). The password is not stored by Noted, and a forgotten password cannot be recovered by the operator.

Plain backup and export files are not automatically encrypted. Device access, browser security, file destinations, and the strength and safekeeping of a chosen password still matter. No storage method or technology can be guaranteed completely secure.

16. Children's privacy

Noted is a general convention and assembly note companion and is not designed specifically for children under 13. It has no age-verification system or child profile. The feedback form can accept a voluntarily supplied name and email and sends those fields to FormSubmit; a child should not submit personal contact information without appropriate parent or guardian involvement.

17. International users

Noted may be accessible from different countries. This policy does not claim certification or blanket compliance with GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, COPPA, or every international privacy law.

18. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This policy may be updated as Noted develops or its actual data practices, hosting, or third-party services change. The effective and last-updated dates above will be revised when the published policy changes materially.
